INTERNET JOBSITE LINKS updated 7/28/08
The following are just a few of the many internet job sites available online. These sites are useful for learning about careers, obtaining information about salaries and companies, and for getting a sense of the types of jobs available. However, using the internet by itself is not the most effective way to find a job.
Tips for using the internet for your job search
· DO NOT RELY ON THE INTERNET TO FIND A JOB. Use job websites as one of several strategies to find the right job, not the only strategy.
· Don’t blanket the web with your resume, more applications is not necessarily better. Target specific jobs and companies as opposed to mass e-mailing hundreds of resumes.
· Look at the websites of individual companies or agencies that you are interested in. Websites of professional associations are often very useful as well.
· Do your own search for job sites specific to your discipline or desired career. Usually the smaller or more targeted websites (i.e., focusing on particular industries or majors) are more useful.
· If you see a job posting you’re interested in on a internet site, try to go directly to the employer’s website and apply directly rather than through the job board.
The UIC Office of Career Services does not necessarily endorse any of these sites or support any information found on them.
