Q. When is Commencement?
A. Spring 2008 commencements will be held May 7-12. Each college will hold its own individual commencement. Check the schedule to view time and location.
Q. I will not complete my requirements until August 2008. Can I still participate in Commencement?
A. Most colleges will allow summer 2008 graduates to participate, however names of summer 2008 graduates will NOT be listed in the commencement program. Please check with your college for further information.
Q. I am a graduate student; how do I verify my eligibility to participate in Commencement?
A. To verify status, Masters and doctoral candidates should check with their home department.
Q. How long will the College Commencement Ceremony last?
A. Under two hours.
Q. What color robe/cap/tassel do I purchase?
A. Just specify your college and expected degree when purchasing your cap and gown at the bookstore.

Q. How many tickets can I receive for my guests?
A. Please check with your individual college to see if tickets are required.
Q. What time should I arrive for my commencement?
A. All students should arrive to form lines one hour prior to the start of Commencement. The UIC Pavilion and UIC Forum doors open for guest seating one hour prior to the start of Commencement and remain open until the start of Commencement.
Q. Is my named called at Commencement?
A. Yes. All graduates will be individually recognized when degrees are conferred.
Q. I have been awarded college honors, will I be recognized during Commencement?
A. Each college or department may choose different ways to honor its outstanding graduates. If you have received a college or department honor or distinction, please direct all questions to your advisor, department or college.
All graduates receiving honors will be acknowledged during the Honors College Convocation ceremony.
Q. I have been awarded university honors, how will I be recognized during Commencement?
A. Latin honors listed below will appear on UIC transcripts for undergraduate students participating in spring 2008 Commencement ceremonies honoring students who earned degrees summer 2007, fall 2007, or spring 2008. Summa cum laude will be distinguished with gold cords. Magna cum laude will be distinguished with silver cords, and cum laude will be distinguished with bronze cords.
Summa cum laude: 3.90 and above gpa "Highest praise"
Magna cum laude: 3.75 to 3.89 gpa "High praise"
Cum laude: 3.50 to 3.74 "Praise"
Please note that transfer students must have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours at the University of Illinois at Chicago with a cumulative grade point average (transfer + UIC) minimum of 3.50 (A=4.00) to earn Latin Honors. In addition, grade point average for UIC courses must be a minimum of 3.50 (A=4.00) to earn Latin Honors.
The determination of Latin Honors for spring 2008 will be based on grades reported through the end of the term prior to graduation. Additionally, transfer students must have completed a minimum of 42 semester hours at UIC at the end of the term prior to graduation and a minimum of 60 UIC hours upon graduation. UIC will reserve the right to make permanent adjustments to the list of students receiving Latin Honors based on final cumulative grade point average information.

Q. Where can I purchase graduation announcements?
A. Announcements can be purchased through Traditions USA. Order forms are available online. For more information you can contact Traditions USA at 1-800-297-GRAD or visit their Web site www.traditionsusa.com.
Q. I am a faculty member. Who do I contact to order a cap and gown?
A. Unless you have been otherwise informed by the Dean of your college, please use the online request form.
Q. Where can I get information about hotel accomodations near UIC?
A. Information is available from Visiting@UIC, the City of Chicago or the Illinois Bureau of Tourism.
Q. When will I receive my diploma?
A. Diplomas will be mailed to spring 2008 graduates 3 to 4 months after graduation. Name and/or address changes must be made in writing to the Office of Records and Registration to ensure receipt of your diploma. If you have any questions regarding your diploma, please contact the Office of Records and Registration at (312) 996-4381.
