Students must reapply for financial aid each year. The general application process is as follows:
1. Complete and Submit FAFSA application.
Application for federal, state, and institutional (UIC) aid begins on January 1, 2008 and requires that you, the student, obtain and complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid using your pin number at FAFSA’s web site listed below.
If you do not have access to a computer you can obtain the FAFSA paper application from the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 1-319-337-5665.
The Renewal paper application has been eliminated as of the 2006-2007 academic year and can only be completed online.
NOTE: Apply on or after January 1, 2008!

NOTE: For completion of your FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA, the UIC Title IV code is 001776
2. Submit required documents.
The UIC Financial Aid Office is required to select some students for file review. These students must supply additional information, such as tax returns and citizenship documentation. If additional information is needed, you will be sent a specific request in the mail explaining what is needed. All requested documentation must be submitted in order to continue the processing of your application.
3. Receive award letter.
You will be sent an award letter when your application file is complete. UIC usually mails award letters beginning in the spring for the following academic year. Make sure that you apply early and that you submit all requested forms in a timely manner in order to insure that you receive your award letter as early as possible.
4. Accept or reject awards.
You must accept or reject all awards that have been offered to you on the official award letter. You must also complete any additional paperwork that is necessary, such as loan forms. Return all paperwork to the financial aid office promptly so that your aid can be processed as soon as possible.
5. Funds credited to your account.
All financial aid funds will be credited to your UIC billing account. At the earliest, this is done the week before classes begin, assuming that all of the above steps have been completed.
6. Refund
If the total credited funds exceed your UIC bill, a refund for the remainder will be issued by University Student Financial Services & Cashier Operations. Detailed information regarding the refund process can be found at http://www.usfsco.uillinois.edu/Refunds.html.
