Frequently Asked Questions
How is Welcome Week different from Orientation? Orientation is a program for new freshmen and transferring students to introduce them to campus and to their peers in a one or two day program over the summer. Freshmen attend a two-day comprehensive, overnight program. Transfer students participate in a one-day program designed to assess their current credits. Both programs introduce students to essential campus offices, programs, and staff, providing an opportunity to have academic advising as well as registration for classes.
Welcome Week is a collaborative effort of many campus communities to put together programs to welcome new and returning students during the beginning of the semester. It provides many opportunities to get connected to the campus. Students can find anything they are looking for, from welcome tables to volunteer opportunities, improvisational comedy troupes to hypnotist entertainers, as well as an opportunity to attend Freshman Convocation and the Chancellor’s New Student Welcome Block Party. It will also provide an opportunity to get out into the Chicagoland community with a trip to Ravinia Music Festival in Highland Park, IL. Please see the Welcome Week calendar for specific events, locations, times and dates. |
