Family Medicine Center

All enrolled students have access to a variety of preventive health care services at the Family Medicine Center, including testing for pregnancy and a number of sexually transmitted diseases.  There is no co-payment or charge for covered services when obtained at the Family Medicine Center. These services are covered by the Student Health Service fee that all students pay. This is not the same as Campus Care.

 

Please access the Family Medicine link above for more information and for a comprehensive list of covered services. Students are also encouraged to verify coverage before services are received.

 

The following services are provided free at the Family Medicine Center to all students when medically necessary and appropriate and rendered on site by Family Medicine:

  • Preventive health care services
  • Basic gynecologic preventive care at approved intervals
  • Common sexually transmitted infection screen and care (including HIV testing and counseling)
  • Contraception with Student Formulary covered medications (pharmacy charges minimal co-pay)
  • Pregnancy counseling and Urine Testing
  • The following lab services when ordered by Family Medicine and covered under student health: (1) STD care: HIV, GC, Chlamydia (2) Basic Gynecologic Care: Urine Pregnancy Test, KOH/Saline (when done on site)

The UIC Center for Reproductive Health
is a comprehensive and expert abortion practice at the UIC Medical Center that provides care for women who seek elective abortion and women who desire termination due to missed abortion.

Services include:
•Medical abortion to 9 weeks gestation (usually 2 visits, 7 days apart)
•First-trimester surgical abortion up to 13 completed weeks (1 visit)
•Post-abortion contraception, including IUD's.
•All contraceptives, including, but not limited to, IUD, birth control patch,
and oral contraceptives. The Center provides referrals for emergency contraception.

The
Center for Reproductive Health accepts most insurance, Public Aid, and self-payment. The Center also accepts CampusCare (student health benefit program) with a referral from the UIC Family Medicine Clinic (contact CampusCare to see if services are covered). Patients should talk to their health insurance plans about eligibility and benefits.

Atmosphere: The Center is integrated into the general Women's Health practice in an attractive setting; patients are not identified as seeking termination of pregnancy. The Center seeks to provide individual care in a supportive and comfortable environment.

Appointments: Patients or referring providers should call the Center for Reproductive Health, Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm at 312/413-8553. Services are only provided on Thursdays.

The Cradle is a private, not-for-profit, non-sectarian, state licensed child welfare agency located in Evanston, Illinois. The Cradle offers counseling and information on adoption and parenting choices, and assistance with medical care. All services are free of charge for pregnant women. The Cradle also has birth parent counselors that do house calls.
