QUESTION: How do I join?

ANSWER: Come on down to the Wellness Center to pick up some information or speak with someone! You can also email the president of the organization, Rabia Baig at rbaig4@uic.edu. The Wellness Center’s phone number is 312.413.2120.

Joining the organization is easy! If you are interested in promoting healthy lifestyles, contact the Wellness Center for more information. If you would like to be a peer educator, you will need to go through some training, but if you would simply like to volunteer, you are welcome to stop by our office. If you do not know much about certain health topics and would like to learn, we have plenty of resources for you.

QUESTION:
What do I do if I want to have WAVES present for my student organization?

ANSWER:
You can stop by the Wellness Center, call us at 312.413.2120, or email wellness@uic.edu with your workshop request, and we will make sure to have peer educators to present it. We do workshops on subjects such as sexual wellness, alcohol, stress management, fitness, nutrition, and many other topics that are pertinent to college students.

QUESTION: Who presents these workshops?

ANSWER: The peer educators from WAVES typically present the workshops; however, if none are available at the time requested, we may have a health educator present.

QUESTION: How much does it cost?

ANSWER: WAVES is advised by the Wellness Center, which is funded by student fees. Therefore, our services are free!

QUESTION: How much time is needed to schedule a workshop?

ANSWER: We recommend that workshops are booked as far in advance as possible; there is no limit to how early you can book a workshop. Three weeks is the suggested minimum, as we need time to get in contact with the peer educators to see if they can present the workshop.

QUESTION: Where do you present?

ANSWER: If a workshop is requested by a group, class, or student organization, the requesting group must provide space for the peer educators to present, whether it is a classroom, a residence hall lounge, or a conference room. Sometimes WAVES will do workshops to a general audience (for example, a nutrition workshop during National Nutrition Month), in which case the room is booked by the Wellness Center, and all are welcome to attend!

QUESTION: How can we contact you?

ANSWER: As mentioned before, you can always stop by the Wellness Center, located in Student Center East, room 238 (right above the bowling alley!). The phone number at the Wellness Center is 312.413.2120, and the email is wellness@uic.edu, if you have any questions about WAVES, workshops, peer education, or wellness in general!
