The Academic Support Program (Student Support Services- U.S. Department of Education title) has been on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago since 1987. An original TRIO program, ASP provides UIC-admitted low-income and first-generation college students and students with disabilities supportive services such as specially designed workshops and basic skills instruction in reading, writing and math. Students enrolled in the program also receive tutoring, personal counseling, academic advisement, and assistance in obtaining financial aid. ASP serves 150 eligible students annually. Thus far, 50 percent of the students who enter the program have graduated and/or are persisting at the University.
The TRIO/Educational Opportunity Outreach Programs are partially funded by the United States Department of Education.
