The Regional Math/Science Center is a TRIO program originated by the United States Department of Education in 1990. This pre-college intensified program improves skills in algebra and basic scientific principles. It also encourages majors in, and provides exposure to math, science, and engineering. UIC's Regional Math/Science Center received its initial funding in 1991 to serve students in Region 5. The first summer session was conducted in 1992 with fifty students from the targeted region, which currently includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The RMSC seeks applications from the 10th and 11th graders in target areas in the region and from schools in metropolitan Chicago. The Chicago schools include Austin Career Academy, Chicago Vocational, Crane, Dunbar, Julian, Lindblom, Marshall and Schurz High Schools.
The TRIO/Educational Opportunity Outreach Programs are partially funded by the United States Department of Education.
